Ecotricity launches Real Time REGOs, an hourly matching product backed by Granular Energy

At Granular Energy, our mission has always been to bring greater transparency, trust and precision to renewable energy sourcing. That’s why we’re pleased to support Ecotricity, Britain’s first green energy company, in the launch of Real Time REGOs, a new product that brings improved accuracy to renewable energy certification for their customers.

Driving transparency with hourly matching

REGOs have long played a key role in verifying renewable energy use, but they have important limitations, most notably a lack of time-based visibility. As energy buyers look for more credible, verifiable ways to demonstrate their climate commitments, matching energy use with generation on an hourly basis is becoming the new benchmark.

Real Time REGOs, Ecotricity’s new product, is a real step forward. Business customers can now see how their electricity consumption aligns with renewable generation every hour of the day. This brings a higher level of integrity to green energy reporting and gives organisations better tools to act on their sustainability goals.

A shared vision for a decarbonised grid

Beyond the technology, this partnership reflects a shared commitment to accelerating grid decarbonisation and building a more transparent energy system. With Real Time REGOs, Ecotricity continues its long-standing mission of turning “bills into mills” – investing customer revenue directly into new sources of renewable generation.

Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity, said:

“For 30 years, Ecotricity has been at the forefront of ensuring our customers know where their energy comes from. So, I’m really pleased with this new innovation – and it’s got one of those Ronseal names.

“Real Time REGOs can tell you where and when your green energy comes from, whether it’s a solar project in Lincolnshire or an offshore wind project in the North Sea. This means our partners and customers can report their green energy credentials with confidence – something increasingly important in a world where greenwashing is on the rise. It’s a great enhancement for all businesses that are serious about greening their operations for real.”

Carbon-Free Chronicles April 2026: The essential round-up of news and reports relating to hourly transparency

April brought the debate on clean energy procurement off the page and into the room. On 24 April, we co-hosted Next-gen Electricity Procurement with CMS in London, bringing together energy buyers, suppliers, and market participants for a morning of panels on Scope 2 reform, next-gen portfolio management, and the future of licence-exempt supply in the UK. The conversations were sharp, and the appetite for clarity on where the market is heading was clear. Beyond the event, April saw the emissions accounting debate intensify, new research quantifying just how much program design matters in carbon-free energy (CFE) procurement, the European Commission signalling its direction on time-based guarantees of origin (GO), and the UK's AI data centre energy planning revealing some uncomfortable contradictions. Here is what has been on our radar.
