Bridging Distances, Building Bonds: Inside Our Amsterdam Offsite Experience
Every few months, we host a company offsite over three days. We spend our time hanging out with colleagues, talking company strategy and vision, brainstorming on hot topics and learning new skills.
Early March, over three sunny Spring days, our entire team gathered to connect, learn, and hang-out against the backdrop of the city of Amsterdam. As we work remotely and across multiple countries, these offsite gatherings are important to strengthen the relationship with our colleagues and company sentiment.
We started our offsite heading to Kas Kantine, an off-grid community farm nestled within Amsterdam's urban landscape. We learnt about off-grid facilities and power supply, sustainable farming and compost making before preparing our own dinner. All under the guidance of knowledgeable hosts, we prepared a delicious meal of homemade pizzas, utilising freshly harvested ingredients sourced directly from the farm. We had a great time in this unique spot - which we couldn’t recommend more!
“It was really nice to meet the team in person. I enjoyed the fact that it was not all about work meetings, but also other social activities. My favourite part was probably the pizza making!” Axel, software engineer, pictured above managing the pizza oven.
The second day, after a morning run along the Amstel river for some of us, we shifted our focus to important strategic discussions. We brainstormed ideas, shared insights, and explored innovative solutions to propel the company forward. It was great to share perspectives with colleagues, and it gave us a sense of vision for the future.
Amidst the strategic deliberations, the gathering also served as a platform for personal and professional growth. We held a 2Tonnes workshop, a collaborative game designed to discover the individual and collective levers of the transition to a low-carbon society. Through this immersive workshop, participants engage in interactive exercises aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness, reinforcing the company's dedication to making a positive impact on the planet.
“We had a number of great collaborative sessions - from company wide discussions about DEI best practices to tactical workshops on our customer journey. It was invaluable to be able to zoom both out and in as a team.” Natalie, US BD Lead
In alignment with the overarching theme of sustainability, we asked our colleagues to prioritise the train to get to Amsterdam and we held a fully vegetarian diet during the 3 days of gathering.
In a world where the lines between work and life often blur, events like these are a reminder of the importance of coming together, fostering relationships, and championing our mission: paving the way to a carbon-free grid. We are so happy that the team came together, until next time!
