Eneco UK and Granular Energy partner to bring greater transparency to clean energy sourcing

Granular Energy is pleased to announce a new partnership with Eneco, a leading sustainable energy supplier in the UK, to enhance transparency of renewable electricity reporting for all its customers. This collaboration represents a step-change in how energy procurement is tracked, verified, and reported on, setting a new level of transparency.

At the heart of the partnership is the integration of Granular Energy’s platform to manage Eneco’s Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) portfolio. REGOs certify the renewable origin of electricity supplied to customers. By using Granular Energy’s platform, Eneco will now deliver detailed REGO breakdowns to each of its customers, providing individualised insights into where and when their electricity is being generated.

This level of transparency enables Eneco’s UK customers to gain unprecedented visibility into their energy supply. Eneco has provided asset to customer matching on an annual basis for many years but now each customer will be able to view a detailed profile of their electricity procurement. This will include information about the source of the energy supplied, or even which specific assets were used and characteristics such as the age of each asset. This marks a fundamental shift in the clarity and accountability offered within energy reporting.

The collaboration also positions Eneco UK to deliver hourly matching to customers. By using ‘shaped REGOs’, REGOs with realised metering data, Granular Energy helps Eneco deliver a breakdown of the production of the underlying asset and show how that aligns with consumption on an hourly or sub-hourly basis. This is an important step towards the alignment of energy procurement with real-time demand.

This move means Eneco UK can deliver hourly matching compliant with the Climate Group’s 24/7 Carbon-Free Coalition guidelines, which promotes hourly clean energy matching for large corporates. It also anticipates expected updates to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which is currently reviewing Scope 2 methodology, and leaning towards time-stamped reporting to improve emissions accounting accuracy. Eneco’s proactive approach ensures its customers remain ahead of evolving industry standards and regulatory requirements.

According to Nigel McManus, head of Eneco Energy Trade in the UK, “for many years, Eneco has delivered 100% renewable electricity to its B2B customers in the UK, in some cases from dedicated assets. This partnership with Granular Energy means Eneco will offer the next level of reporting and the enhanced renewable procurement insights will be invaluable for customers”. Ben Wilby, who manages the Eneco B2B customer portfolio, thinks this forward thinking “fits really well with our large consumers who are very aware of the sustainability challenges and who want to procure renewables in the most meaningful way”.

Eneco UK is a subsidiary of the Netherlands-based Eneco Group and has a strong reputation for innovation and environmental stewardship. As a trusted supplier over many years to many well-known businesses across the UK, it brings decades of experience in renewable energy and a bold vision to drive the transition to a net-zero future. Eneco’s decision to work with Granular Energy further strengthens its leadership in shaping the next generation of energy services.

“Eneco UK is demonstrating real leadership by giving customers not just access to renewable electricity, but the insight to understand exactly where and when it’s being sourced. We’re proud to support this step towards full transparency and hourly matching, which are essential building blocks of a truly carbon-free energy system” said Eleonore Lazat, Granular Energy Commercial Director.

As the energy industry evolves towards a more transparent, accountable, and de-carbonised future, this partnership stands as a model for how suppliers can deliver more meaningful value to their customers. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to help Eneco UK and its customers lead the way in clean energy procurement. Granular Energy is proud to support Eneco UK in this transformation.

Carbon-Free Chronicles April 2026: The essential round-up of news and reports relating to hourly transparency

April brought the debate on clean energy procurement off the page and into the room. On 24 April, we co-hosted Next-gen Electricity Procurement with CMS in London, bringing together energy buyers, suppliers, and market participants for a morning of panels on Scope 2 reform, next-gen portfolio management, and the future of licence-exempt supply in the UK. The conversations were sharp, and the appetite for clarity on where the market is heading was clear. Beyond the event, April saw the emissions accounting debate intensify, new research quantifying just how much program design matters in carbon-free energy (CFE) procurement, the European Commission signalling its direction on time-based guarantees of origin (GO), and the UK's AI data centre energy planning revealing some uncomfortable contradictions. Here is what has been on our radar.
