Say Hello to The Planeteers

We're glad to introduce The Planeteers, a group of our employees that embody environmental stewardship at Granular Energy, consistently advocating for a brighter, greener future. Read what they've been up to.

Welcome to Granular Energy, where passion aligns with purpose and commitment drives action. Our employees strive to build a company they can take pride in, contributing to our mission and culture even beyond their job descriptions. Today, we're introducing The Planeteers, a group of dedicated individuals united by a shared vision of addressing climate change with urgency and innovation. This working group embodies environmental stewardship at Granular Energy, consistently advocating for a brighter, greener future.

Our journey over the past year has been incredibly rewarding as we've embarked on a myriad of initiatives reflecting our unwavering commitment to sustainability, creating links between our teams and contributing to company culture. Read about five initiatives we want to highlight.

Sustainability Policy: As a team, with the assistance of our investors, we crafted our sustainability policy. This policy outlines how we conduct our operations with minimal environmental impact. Adopted across our company, these guidelines ensure we operate in a fair, equitable, and conscientious way, setting a high standard for environmental responsibility within our team’s culture.

Movie Club: We've combined entertainment with education by hosting movie clubs that screen films and documentaries focused on environmental and social issues followed by a discussion to encourage dialogue and deepen our understanding of the issues presented. So far we’ve watched Kiss The Ground (which we rated 5 stars) and The Last Tourist (3.5 stars). Next up? More Than Honey.

My Little Planet Challenge: This gamified carbon reduction challenge has bolstered team spirit and heightened environmental awareness. Over three weeks, we undertook small actions to lessen our carbon footprint from eco-driving to adopting vegetarianism, to learning about reforestation, bulk-buying, switching energy suppliers etc. Through this challenge, we gained insight into our colleagues' lifestyles and habits, and raised money for charity, with Granular matching each point earned with a donation.

Climate Fresk: We want all new members to participate in a Climate Fresk workshop. This climate education team game heightened our understanding of the system-level impact of climate change, extending beyond our focus on the energy sector. The next activity is the 2Tonnes workshop, another game that aims to reduce the per capita carbon footprint to 2 tonnes of CO2 by 2050.

Reducing our carbon footprint: We've implemented several initiatives to monitor and decrease our carbon footprint, as highlighted in our previous post. First, we utilize Greenly to meticulously track our company's emissions. Then, we concentrate on reducing emissions in high-impact areas, mainly travel and IT. We've limited carbon-intensive travel, ensuring each trip is necessary and its environmental impact is assessed. Additionally, we promote the use of second-hand tech to lessen our equipment's carbon footprint.

As we prepare for another exciting year, our resolve is stronger than ever. We're dreaming big and taking bold steps towards a world where our planet flourishes.

Until we meet on the greener side,
The Planeteers at Granular Energy

Over 11,000 companies and financial institutions have committed to science-based targets since SBTi was founded in 2015, making this release one of the most consequential standard updates in corporate climate accountability. The changes to Scope 2 electricity requirements deserve particular attention. Here is what has changed, what it means in practice, and why this signals a pivotal moment for utilities and suppliers.

50 questions from the room: defending hourly EAC matching at the RECs Market Meeting

I argued for hourly matching in a room that remains to be convinced. They had many questions. That’s the reality of debating hourly EAC matching, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. In a room where most of the audience prefers annual EAC matching, arguing the virtue and need for hourly wasn’t easy. I've done my best to answer the questions below, by topic.
