Granular Energy and STX Group collaborate to help corporates navigate the next generation of renewable energy procurement
The partnership gives corporates the tools and market access to measure hourly matching across their renewable portfolios and prepare for time- and location-based sourcing requirements.

NEW YORK/AMSTERDAM, October 7, 2026 — Granular Energy, the software platform for managing scalable, transparent EAC-backed clean energy products, and STX Group, a leading global environmental commodities trader, today announce a collaboration to help corporates navigate the next generation of renewable energy procurement. By combining Granular Energy's market-leading traceability platform with STX Group’s advisory, market intelligence and environmental markets expertise, the partnership enables companies to better understand, measure and optimize the impact of their renewable energy procurement decisions.
As voluntary frameworks and regulatory requirements increasingly focus on aligning where and when renewable electricity is generated and consumed, companies require greater visibility across their procurement portfolios. Together, Granular Energy and STX Group aim to provide corporates with the tools, insights and market access needed to prepare for this evolving landscape.
Helping corporates navigate the transition to more granular electricity procurement
Climate and energy frameworks are evolving, and corporates accordingly need greater visibility into how their procured energy aligns with the time and place of their operations. Emerging developments such as the SBTi's Corporate Net Zero Standard V2.0 and the ongoing GHG Protocol Scope 2 revisions are intensifying discussions around temporal matching, deliverability, system impact and the role of environmental attribute certificates in credible climate claims.
At the same time, regulatory developments are beginning to move beyond voluntary initiatives. New data centre reporting and sustainability requirements globally are placing greater focus on energy sourcing transparency, with some proposals mandating hourly matching. For example, Spain is considering regulation that would require data centre electricity consumption to be met by additional, renewable generation on an hourly basis in order to maintain grid access.
These developments are particularly relevant for corporates managing renewable electricity portfolios across multiple markets, each with different registry standards, certificate structures and levels of temporal granularity. As expectations around transparency and traceability continue to increase, companies require tools and expertise that help them understand the implications of different procurement strategies and prepare for an evolving regulatory and reporting landscape.
From portfolio transparency to procurement action
The partnership enables corporates to identify practical pathways to strengthen their renewable electricity strategies while preparing for future reporting and target-setting requirements. Through this collaboration, organizations can assess their existing mix of PPAs and certificates, quantify the alignment between renewable generation and electricity consumption, and evaluate the impact of evolving concepts, such as hourly matching and location-based sourcing.
"Many of our clients are looking beyond today's renewable electricity procurement models and trying to understand how emerging requirements around time-based and location-based sourcing could affect their strategies. Through our collaboration with Granular Energy, we help organizations assess their existing portfolios, quantify hourly matching performance, and identify practical sourcing pathways to improve it. We support clients end-to-end, from portfolio assessment and strategy development through to the procurement and delivery of granular certificates across markets,” said Nate Lash, Advisory Director at STX.
